In the state of Washington, according to RCW 9.35.020, a person commits an identity felony when he or she knowingly obtains, possesses, uses, or transfers “a means of identification or financial information of another person, living, or dead, with the intent to commit, or to aid or abet, any crime.“

Washington State laws charge identity theft crimes as a felony, with sentences of up to ten years in prison and fines of up to $20,000 for the most serious offenses. Each identity theft crime that is prosecuted is punished separately.
